Elysium Announces Fall Concerts
Combined Chamber Orchestra and Chorus to Perform October 13-14
ATLANTA, September 7, 2007 – Elysium Chamber Orchestra and Chorus, the first joint chamber choral-orchestral group in the Southeast, will perform its fall concert at Morningside Presbyterian Church on Oct.13-14. P. David Hancock and Alan Raines will conduct the Atlanta-based chamber group in its second public performance.
“We look forward to building on the success of our spring debut with another exquisite performance,” said Raines. “Elysium is honored to fill the role of Atlanta’s only chamber orchestra and chorus, and we are proud of our mission to educate listeners and transport them to musical paradise.”
Following its spring 2007 debut, the chamber orchestra and chorus was praised for its spirited musicianship and its community-based approach to attracting regional performers. Elysium features more than 50 professional vocalists and instrumentalists from Atlanta and the surrounding area, including musicians from Chamber Music Atlanta, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the former Atlanta Ballet Orchestra and Stetson University of Deland, Fla.
Elysium’s fall performances will be held Oct. 13-14 at Morningside Presbyterian Church, 1411 N. Morningside Drive N.E. The Saturday evening concert will begin at 8 p.m., and the Sunday matinee concert will begin at 3 p.m. The performance repertoire will include Cantata No. 140: Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme BWV 140 by Johann Sebastian Bach, Sinfonie in b minor by Felix Mendelssohn, Serenade for Strings by Edward Elgarand Vesperae Solennes de Confessore K. 339 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, featuring soprano Arietha Lockhart of Atlanta. Tickets can be purchased at the door by cash or check. Adult tickets are $15, and student and children tickets are $8.

Founded in 2005 by conductors P. David Hancock and Alan Raines, Elysium is the first combined chamber orchestra and chorus in Atlanta and the Southeast. In Greek mythology, Elysium means “Paradise.” Elysium’s mission is to share the beauty of chamber music through performances, education, recordings and community involvement. Major concerts will include fall and spring performances. Workshops and symposiums will be held during the summer for students and aspiring professionals.
